The evening of June 17th, 2015 was a major milestone in the lives of six Serendipity students. Last night staff and student families gathered to celebrate the graduating class of 2015. It was a night for reflection of accomplishments and excitement for what the future may bring. Each graduate self-selected a staff to speak on their behalf during the ceremony. The touching tributes were a reminder of the many obstacles our graduating class has overcome to become young, educated adults.

Thank you to all of graduation speakers, the families in attendance, TTIP teacher Brenda for organizing the ceremony, and everyone who made the evening so special for our grads. Good luck class of 2015! We know you will do great things.

On Tuesday, June 16th students at Serendipity Center enjoyed an end of the year field trip to the Oregon Zoo! More than 70 students across ages and grade levels were excited to experience the variety zoo exhibits. From California Condors, to Polar Bears, to African Elephants students marveled at all of the amazing animals.

Serendipity Center would like to thank all of the staff and parent volunteers for helping make this field trip an awesome experience for everyone in attendance. A special thank you is in order to Lower School teacher Tyler for organizing the trip. It was a perfect way to end the school year and start summer!

On Tuesday, June 9th the students of Serendipity Center enjoyed the annual Field Day celebration. The year end school-wide PBIS party was a fun time for students of all ages and grade levels. Staff operated games including three-legged races, bean bag toss, and hula-hoop pass, to name a few. The morning of excitement and games was capped off with an afternoon treat of snow cones! Congratulations to the students for earning their final PBIS reward for the year. Thank you to all of the staff who volunteered to run games and our PBIS coordinator Gretchen for organizing Field Day and all of our past PBIS events.

One of the most popular areas of Serendipity Center for students is the Game Room. This area is used for a variety of therapeutic and recreational purposes. It is common to see students taking a structured break with Serendipity staff, or enjoying a game of pool during recess with peers during the day. For many of our students, it is an area to practice sportsmanship and turn-taking with others in a safe, constructive environment. Naturally, when students found out that we would be replacing our pool table the school was buzzing with excitement.

Last week on Tuesday, November 25th the incredibly generous individuals at Golden West Billiards donated and installed our new “Delta Queen” style billiard table; a significant, and much needed upgrade from our previous table. Serendipity Center would like to extend sincere gratitude to Rich, Jack, and Zack at Golden West for donating your time and energy to install our fabulous new table.
