At Serendipity Center, we honor and recognize students for their achievements in many areas of their lives.

Our year-end special awards are tributes to the growth and effort students have made each year. We acknowledge that success and change come in many forms.

STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Students who are named Student of the Year consistently show qualities that lead to success in life.

This is the most prestigious award at Serendipity. These students consistently maintain a positive work ethic and attitude in all areas of their lives. We count on these students to be safe, respectful, and responsible. These are the students who day after day make good decisions to take care of themselves and who consistently take the skills learned at school and apply them to all other situations in their lives.

LEADERSHIP AWARDS

This award recognizes students who have worked to make Serendipity a safe and supportive school environment.

These students consistently demonstrate their commitment to Serendipity’s Guidelines for Success. They show others how to be safe, respectful, and responsible. They role model good citizenship behaviors for all students.

BOB WRIGHT
PERSONAL GROWTH AWARDS

Students who receive the Bob Wright Award have made important positive changes in many areas throughout the school year.

This award is named after one of our founding staff members, Bob Wright. Bob believed strongly that all students have the potential to change and improve. He was instrumental in encouraging and motivating students to make significant personal growth.

PAPA JOHN
RESPECT AWARDS

This award is given to students who show respect toward others and to themselves.

One of our most honored and respected staff members, John Jackson, retired after many years of service to Serendipity. He was a faithful and dedicated staff member. He modeled respect in all his actions with students, families, and staff. His approach to others was gentle and designed to promote collaboration and problem-solving.

BRENDA LOFGREN
READY FOR LIFE AWARDS

This award celebrates young people who have prepared themselves for independence and for their next steps.

This award is named after a 34-year therapeutic teacher at Serendipity. She launched Serendipity’s Transition to Independence Program (TTIP) and dedicated her career to guiding students towards skillful independence. This award is usually presented to an Upper School student who is ready to move on from their experience at Serendipity to young adulthood and who have demonstrated success in developing the life skills necessary to do so.

KINDNESS & INCLUSION AWARDS

This award recognizes students who show kindness to all and who treat differences with acceptance and inclusivity.

Serendipity’s population is diverse, as is our larger community. Students who demonstrate kindness and inclusion show others how to truly welcome and accept all members of Serendipity. These students stand against behaviors that advocate hatred, intolerance, and/or discrimination toward others.

ATTENDANCE AWARDS

Consistent attendance leads tolearning and mastering of skills.

Attendance Awards recognize students with 98% attendance, 99% attendance, and 100% attendance over the course of a school year.

President’s Education Awards

These awards are sponsored by the US Department of Education. They are available to help principals honor students who have achieved academic goals through hard work and dedication to learning. These are awards Serendipity presents on behalf of the Department of Education. Two different awards are available.

PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE

This award is presented to students who have met established criteria in terms of grade point average and performance on state assessments.

PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT

This award is presented to students who have shown tremendous growth in their academic skills. These students are working with strong commitment to overcome obstacles to learning.

AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP AWARDS

Also sponsored by the Department of Education, Citizenship Awards are presented to students who show a positive attitude toward classmates, school, and the community. These students display an understanding and an appreciation of civic responsibility. Most importantly, they possess strength of character and the courage to do what is right.
