Watch art therapy in action!
“I’m really proud of our work. We did that together!” said a student after completing a group art project of a globe. Before today, he wasn’t interested in any school activities. After today, he will have gained a bit of confidence and joy.
When viewed from all angles, the globe says “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” The project was created as part of the art therapy program at Serendipity Center, funded exclusively by generous donors like you.
Staff like our resident art therapist, Jolie, use creative methods to engage kids who might otherwise struggle. “Therapeutic art helps kids learn social skills, calm their bodies, and focus their minds. Our kids don’t learn these skills in the traditional school environment,” she says. When children feel successful with art, they also gain confidence to begin tackling other challenges like making friends, or completing a math worksheet or maybe eventually even filling out a job application.
Art therapy can be a critical step in a child’s path to healing as part of our Mental Health Pillar.
