Ornaments for a good cause

At their December 15th meeting, Shandra told GSA students she was thrilled with the process and their willingness to help, noting that “these worthy organizations are going to be grateful you helped them out.”

Students and staff had a blast making LGBTQ+ themed holiday ornaments this season with Serendipity’s Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA)! Ornaments were sold to staff, Board, and community members, raising $251 for local Portland LGBTQ+ organizations in need, including Outside In, SMYRC, Q Center, and Brave Space, LLC (see links below). GSA students also raised money for their New Year’s 2022 party. They will be enjoying a well-deserved ice cream social when they get back to school on January 5!

Shandra, one of our wonderful Speech-Language Pathologists, provides staff leadership for the club. Clubs like GSA are an important part of Serendipity’s therapeutic environment because they allow students to engage with like-minded community members, make new friends, and practice the communication skills they’re learning.

We at Serendipity are very grateful to give back to others, and GSA students were honored to support the LGBTQ+ community through giving to these nonprofits.
