Serendipity Impact Report — 2020-2021

Despite constantly-evolving technology needs and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, Serendipity Center offered innovative, therapeutic education to 105 students from 20 districts in the 2020-2021 school year.

We offered remote learning until April, followed by a hybrid remote/in-person learning option through June.
In June, we graduated one of our largest senior classes in our 40-year history.

We’re proud to report a nearly 80% student engagement rate during the last school year.
At Serendipity, we define student engagement as showing up and participating in class. This is an extraordinary outcome, especially during a pandemic, and a demonstration of the dedication and resilience of our students, staff, and teachers.

During 537 home visits

we delivered art and school supplies, performed tech trouble-shooting, and simply checked in on our students during a year of social distancing.

We installed over 100

Safety and hygiene features, including temperature check stations, touchless faucets, HEPA air filters and plexiglass barriers to welcome student back to school.

4 seniors

applied for and received Stephen Carter Scholarships to support their continued studies after graduation.

10 seniors

received their diplomas during two outdoors, physically-distanced, joyful, story-filled graduation ceremonies.
