Serendipity’s mission statement expresses our commitment to provide students with a safe place to start over and to experience success at acquiring and practicing the skills necessary to become contributing, independent members of their communities.

Serendipity believes that all children are capable of learning if given the appropriate environment.  Therefore, we commit to continuing the development of our unique model of therapeutic education that blends both special education and mental health services into the school day.  The most powerful element of our model is the constant availability of a skilled support team that focuses on responding to crises as opportunities to grow and recover.

We believe that students benefit most from having positive school experiences that replicate, as much as possible, those of their non-disabled peers. To this end, we look and operate much like a traditional school, but provide a great amount of structure, support, individualization, and mental health support services for each of our students.

Serendipity focuses on teaming with other service providers involved with our student population in an effort to implement coordinated and meaningful services.  Because many of the students and their families have multiple and complex needs.

Serendipity’s culture celebrates positive steps of all sizes and offers consistency and acceptance to all our young people.  Our students are going to make mistakes, but we use these mistakes as essential lessons.

Serendipity believes that trusting relationships with adults are necessary for any learning or growth to take place.  Every student is provided with safety and respect that are essential in forming the foundation of each school day.

Success may look different for each student, but at Serendipity success is defined as readiness for his/her “next steps.” Serendipity seeks to prepare students for a successful return to a public school setting whenever this is appropriate.  Other students elect to graduate from Serendipity and work toward developing their employability and independent living skills.

Like young people everywhere, our students desire competence, independence, and the capacity to contribute.  It is a guiding belief at Serendipity that every child can achieve this dream.

Serendipity Center is both an accredited school and a certified mental health agency.
